Treetops School is a Texas Open Enrollment Charter School. There are no eligibility requirements for enrollment in Treetops. As required by the Education Reform Act of 1993, the school employs a Lottery Enrollment to admit students. The term "lottery" used here means that when more students apply for admission than can be accommodated by the maximum enrollment, students must be chosen from the pool at random for all the available spots.
Students enrolled in the charter school do not have to reapply every year, but must return an enrollment packet every year by the date designated on website and enrollment application. After assigning all grade levels to returning families, open enrollment will commence for any available openings. If the deadline is missed by a returning family, they must go back into the lottery process.
Pre-admission enrollment forms are located on the website, www.treetops.org, and in the office. Information requested on the pre-admission enrollment forms are: student name, date of birth, current grade enrolled, grade applied for, city, zip code, county, current school name, school district, years attended, two contact names and phone numbers. The following question is asked: Does the student have any documented history of a criminal offense, juvenile court adjudication or removal to an alternative education program for cause of expulsion?
Enrollment pre-admission forms are numbered when the numbers are placed in an envelope for each grade level. As an opening occurs for that grade level, a number is drawn; the family is notified via phone, mail and or email.
Treetops admission policy adheres to TEC. 12.111(6) which requires that a charter school’s admission policy include a statement that the school will not discriminate in admissions based on gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, artistic or athletic ability, or the district a child would otherwise attend.
Treetops does exclude admission from all students with documented histories of a criminal offense, a juvenile court adjudication, or discipline problems under TEC Chapter 37, Subchapter A as authorized by TEC. 12.111(a)(6).
